Everything You Wanted to Know...And Then Some!
Phase I, an outdoor stage and rehearsal room, was constructed in 2004 by Sequim
City Band using non-profit dollars and donated to the City of Sequim to maintain
and operate.
·
The Sequim City Band, Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus, Stardust Big Band, and the
Olympic Express Big Band are current weekly users of the rehearsal hall.
·
The outdoor stage is used (in the warmer months) weekly by the City and monthly
by the Band for performances free to the public.
·
The outdoor stage may be rented through the City by other groups .
Phase II will be an expansion of the rehearsal room and construction of a
state-of-the-art Concert Hall built by non-profit funds raised by the Sequim
City Band.
·
The concert hall will be the only stage in the area, other than the public high
schools, able to seat a 60 piece band or an 80 piece orchestra.
·
Upon completion, the facility will be donated by the Band to the City of Sequim
for maintenance and operation.
·
Operation of the facility will be by qualified City staff.
·
The cost of Phase II will be approximately $5 million.
·
A matching donation of $1.5 million has been pledged by the Bates Family
Foundation.
·
Other grants have been applied for, but the majority of the funds will come from
individuals and businesses in the community.
·
This project is being developed by a building committee composed of a local
professional architect, a professional project management consultant, and six
members of the Sequim City Band (four of whom are retired engineers). A
steering committee of leaders of area music groups and qualified citizens is
leading the fund raising and awareness efforts.
·
Groups that will use a concert hall are being added to a “Partner” list,
currently at 12 groups. These “partners” will help promote the building
campaign and use the facility on completion.
·
Building is slated to begin in April 2009 with completion in April
2010
·
Rental of the concert hall will be on a sliding scale - local non-profits at a
lower fee.
·
A full range of uses for the concert hall will be sought - local musical groups,
school groups, recitals, lectures, “big” name artists, festival activities, etc.
